On Tuesday, February 28th part of the Sargasso crew attended the 2017 Woodford Reserve Master of the Manhattan competition to support our Beverage Director, Athena Freedlander who was asked to be on the judge's panel for this year's competition. The contest was held at Bartini in Morgantown and local restaurants were invited to send their bartenders to compete for the title of Master of the Manhattan.
Having won the competition in 2016, Athena was thrilled to come back and participate in this event as a contest judge. "Contests like this encourage community among those whose craft is cocktails and allow peers in our community to come together, demonstrate creativity and have some fun."
This year's field included four entrants including the winner, Chett Watts from Hill and Hollow. His Mountain Manhattan was made with housemade Ginseng Bitters, Smoked Birch Root-infused vermouth and a Sorghum-Cured Damsom Plum. We personally got to taste the cured plum and it reminded us of our island days and Li Hing Mui infused drinks. Congrats Chett and Cheers to all this year's Master of the Manhattan participants.
