Do you suffer from cravings or dependencies? You're not the only one. Many of us don’t truly come alive until we have that first cup of coffee. Still more of us get “hangry” if our lunch gets pushed back an hour or two. Personally, I suffer from all of the above as well as eating when I’m not truly hungry. Bored? Time for a snack. Watching Netflix? Time for a snack. Oh, its 3:21 p.m., time for a snack!! The Clean program has focused my attention on my relationship with food. The structure and convenience of the Sargasso meal plan have helped me stay on track with food portions and meal times.
That being said, there are battles I had to fight on my own. For example, I’d consider myself a coffee lover. I don’t just drink it for the lift, I enjoy the complex and roasty flavor. Coffee has been a regular part of my daily routine for at least five years. I thought going into the program that giving up caffeine might be my kryptonite. Surprisingly, after one week on Clean, I hardly notice not having that morning cup of coffee. When I eliminated caffeine, I learned something about my relationship with it. Yes, I missed the buzz, but I missed drinking something warm to start my day even more. I replaced coffee with caffeine free organic Rooibos Tea and I think that has helped ease the transition tremendously. I feel a greater sense of balance throughout my day.
In my research on cleansing I’ve read articles adamantly against the idea. Most state that cleansing is not a permanent health solution/has no lasting impact. It is true that Clean is only 21 days, but the things I’m learning about my relationship with food will have a permanent effect on choices I make in the future.
